Matanzas

San Carlos y San Severino de Matanzas es una ciudad de Cuba, capital de la provincia del mismo nombre. Fue fundada en octubre de 1693 en un sitio privilegiado de la geografía norte de Cuba entre la desembocadura de los ríos Yumurí, San Juan y Canímar.
Por su desarrollo cultural y literario, Matanzas es también conocida como «la Atenas de Cuba».
Otro de sus sobrenombres más populares es «La ciudad de los puentes», ​ pues cuenta con 29 puentes, lo que se debe a los 3 ríos que la atraviesan por casi todo su territorio. Cuatro de sus puentes (Puente de La Concordia, Puente Sánchez Figueras, Puente Canímar, Puente Calixto García), son centenarios y en funcionamiento activo actual, así como el de Bacunayagua, el más alto del país.
Las Cuevas de Bellamar es el centro turístico en activo más antiguo de Cuba. Es una de las cuevas abiertas en caliza más bellas del mundo y declarada Monumento Nacional. En Matanzas se celebró el primer juego de pelota oficial de Cuba. Es por derecho propio la cuna del béisbol y cuenta con el más antiguo lugar dedicado a ello, el Palmar de Junco, también Monumento Nacional, así como el Teatro Sauto, el Castillo de San Severino, Batería de costa El Morrillo y el Museo Farmacéutico de Matanzas.

Las Cuevas de Bellamar is the oldest active resort in Cuba. It is one of the most beautiful limestone open caves in the world and declared a National Monument. In Matanzas the first official ball game of Cuba was held. It is in its own right the birthplace of baseball and has the oldest place dedicated to it, the Palmar de Junco, also a National Monument, as well as the Sauto Theater, the Castle of San Severino, Battery of the El Morrillo coast and the Pharmaceutical Museum of Kills.
